Buchanan may still be the worst [US president]. It’s pretty bad when the Civil War starts at the end of your term. I thought the Civil War began in April 1861; and that James Buchanan had left office about a month earlier. Is that not correct?

The first state to secede, South Carolina, did so in December 1860, as a direct result of Lincoln's election one month prior. Yes. The Confederate States of America were declared in February 1861, prior to Lincoln's inauguration.
