Pretty much every violent, sordid or degrading act that can be perpetrated against women and girls has been committed repeatedly by ISIS. There is no doubt in the minds of the women who are taking up arms of the horrors they will experience if they are captured. I agree with them that it is better to make it extremely risky for ISIS to try.

I agree with you. Also, I must say, Kurdish women in particular have a very long history of fighting alongside men, when it is necessary. This is nothing new. Do I like it? Of course not. But these things happen, have happened, and often a necessity, not a whim or ‘nice thing to do’.
