The case for voting Republicans, even those you think are Rinos
10/18/2014 | chrisnj

Many conservative voters are disillusioned at the Republicans for not standing up for their principles, for compromising with the Democrats, for having no spines etc. etc. They vow not to vote for the Republicans, or outright vote for the Democrats, to send them a message, to teach them a lesson. I think this kind of message/lesson serves no purpose but to cut off your own supply of oxygen.

Almost all the Republicans rejected obumbocrap (obamacare) but Harry Reid and his crooked Dems jammed it through deviously. The House Republicans have passed many legislations to repeal obumbocrap but Reid et al killed them all. The House Republicans have passed many good legislations but Reid and his crooks buried them all. The media blasted the Republicans on all their good constitutional/conservative acts, but remained silent on the Democrats' constant acts to destroy the constitution. This is a known fact and all of us always complain about it. Yet we are not showing any understanding of the difficult situations facing the House Republicans. While the Dem voters are behind their Dems 100%, we are demanding perfection while offering no help. We blame the Republicans for this and that but we are not working hard to create an opportunity or situation where they can stand on their principles and serve us faithfully. Why don't we vote them into majority in both House and Senate, so they have more control and feel less pressured to compromise, but more encouraged to listen to us to enact constitutional legislations for the good of the country. This is not excuses for the Republicans' non-performance. It is simply a fact that a good person can only do so much under difficult situations! We should understand that it is human nature to be rather weak, especially when under pressure. But given the favorable situations we are more likely to stand up taller for our principles. Remember when the Republicans were the majority in both Houses - even with a Democrat president Clinton, Congress was able to serve the people well! So if we are able to vote the Republicans into the majority, we just might be able to influence them into reversing the course to get our country back on the right track. Considering that many people have awaken and patriots are much more enthusiatically engaged in shaping government policies, we can realistically hope to get better leaders who will listen to the people again. All we need to do is unite and vote the crooks out but vote the acceptable albeit imperfect Republican candidates in, then work hard to influence them...

Certainly, with rampant voter fraud, ignorant and low-information voters, AND, the conservatives who vow to stay home or vote for the Dems, there is no hope that the Republicans will be in control of both Houses. It was said that those conservatives who wouldn't vote for the Republicans are part of the reasons why the Dems won the elections. So these conservatives are in effect cutting off the supply of oxygen to their own hopes (and our hopes)!

History suggests that the Republicans are more constitution-abiding leaders. We need to create the opportunities for them to abide to the constituion - by voting them into majority and then pressuring them into serving the people the way they should.

I can’t think of too many reasons why someone would devote a lot of time urging a surrender to liberalism a year before there will be any announced GOP candidates for president.

And no. We are not remotely on the same side. I will not vote for your libs and you won’t vote for a conservative if you think the RINO will win.

Hegelianism laid the predicate for the works of Marx and Engels. Even Marx and Engels said so. They simply stripped God out, and used Hegel’s method of finding the ‘thesis,’ the ‘antithesis,’ and the ‘synthesis.’

Absolutely. And if antithesis is evil, then synthesis is compromise, resetting the bar... The next time, antithesis remains the same, thesis is at the bar, compromise again... move the bar again. It is simple to see, and that is why we have come so very, very far from Mayberry - And some folks like it that way.

Good post (and nice to see you, EV).

Seems to be all you can do since conservative discussions are beyond you. You could just drop it and do us all a favor. But if you insist on making an ass of yourself, don’t let me stand in your way.

Aligning yourself with corrupt party politics may give you a temporary emotional boost when “your guys” win, but it ensures that those whom you profess to oppose maintain their control. Putting party above principle can only have one outcome: a party without principle.

Perfectly said - this entire post was brilliant. Well done. This ain't a football game.

As I recall you were a big John McCain fan in 2000. Rand Paul is the new John McCain.

Oh Norm. You made an ass of yourself when you failed to address my points a few hundred posts ago. We all saw your failure. Thankfully for you we are merciful and willing to ignore your incompetence.

I will say a bit about amnesty (Im late to this thread and have not read much of it....)

I also live in New Mexico which if you look on a map borders a country known as Mexico so I have some skin in the game.

Amnesty is a catch all word which no longer has much meaning.

Even if the people you hate (your term GOPe) want pure amnesty they know they aint getting it....but being politicians they see lots of votes from Latinos of all stripes and that is what they want...

GW Bush who you also hate I bet fought for amnesty, lost and started erecting a fence on the border

It needs funding to finish it. Now especially since Ebola. I think you will see a build the fence first move from Republicans, then a change in the laws regarding citizenship.

if they do approach it piece meal it will sell better than the stupid comprehensive stuff.

What changes come about is hard to say ...people are vocally against pure amnesty and they feel Ronald Reagan got taken when he did it.

The mood of the country is changing fast so the politics of all this will also change fast

God only knows who will have how much power after the election but with luck the newly elected Republicans will see the vote as an anti Obama vote.

It looks like one to me.

Therefore they will not be inclined to work with Barack on anything and will instead allow him his much earned lame duck status.

Who the hell knows what Obama will do ....Its anybodies guess.

but I think you will see some mouthing of Amnesty from some republicans (the translation is “Latinos vote for us ...we don’t really hate you” ) maybe a few small moves will occur but nothing major...

That is what I think

I live in AZ, which if you look on the map borders a country called Mexico and a state called New Mexico and another country called California. that one is currently in limbo though. It’s not fully a country yet but thinks it is. So I am quite familiar with the GOP, Amnesty, Illegals and how it all fits together.

So you were saying?

“No strategy is worth a hill of beans unless it involves terraforming the mindset of the electorate to agree with conservative ideas.”

I think almost everyone would agree with your starting premise. But it goes downhill from there.

Advocating the “Vote for mr. right now” position hardly gives you the moral ground to refer to purists as impatient. Asking for exceptional character is a mismatch with compromising principles. Your friendly fire on other conservatives doesn’t show much perseverance.

But returning to your premise. I think a strong case can be made that there are RINOs who hurt the long term case for conservativism. When Cochran refered to conservatives as racists in Mississippi, that was damage we took from one of our own. When Mitch McTurtle refers to the tea party as extrimists, that is our “leader” selling us out.

Those in the middle expect to hear that from democrats, but when someone with an R next to their name sells out the conservative cause, we take a step backwards with respect to “terraforming the mindset of the electorate to agree with conservative ideas”

I know it is difficult to focus on the long game when the temptation is there to vote for “mr/mrs right now”. In the past, I’ve been there. Many others have. But over time, we have noticed the pattern that by voting for liberals... we get more liberals. It isn’t working, it is time to regroup and try something else.

The question is whether we are up to it. It will take true grit on our part.

Ahh yes... the 'true grit' of compromise and appeasement. That's what Rooster Cogburn was noted for, fer sure.

“I’m as constitutional as they come but refused to submit to a sheeple litmus test”

In this election you do have a litmus test. Either you can chose the litmus test of:

1. Don’t campaign by calling conservatives racists and extremists?

or

2. Vote for the letter R!

Either way, recognize that you do indeed have a litmus test.
