I heard about the bodies but of course I thought that drug people killed them. Why did government forces do this?

Why do you think there is a difference?

I think it’s clear the police in cahoots with a cartel did shoot the protesters. But like you say, why shoot the protesters? Even if it sounds like the protesters, called Normalistas, have a reputation to act up sometimes (the worse I saw hijacking a bus, who knows how serious that would actually be in a country like Mexico), nothing merits this.

I wonder myself if the protesters could have connections to people the rival cartel does not like. It certainly seems like a rash act to outright shoot them. And Mexico has a fair amount of protests already in itself.

Lastly, these Normalistas sort of seem to be “Left-Wing” but not the way we in the USA would think of being “Left-Wing”, apparently one of their issues was to stand up for the right of a Teacher to SELL their job title to the highest bidder. This hardly seems like a “Left-Wing” aim.
