Must have changed the masks since 1964. Another concession like the M-16 to political correctness?
There were two different types when I was in during the early and mid 1990s. The “old” ones had two internal filters (M17), and the new ones (M40)have an external cylinder.
The other issue is facial hair. If you can’t get a good seal, then it is useless.
