Dallas leaders announce voluntary containment orders for workers exposed to Ebola; no emergency declaration
Dallas leaders on Thursday moved to sign voluntary agreements to restrict the movement of health care workers who have been exposed to Ebola, but stopped short of declaring a local emergency in response to the virus.
The workers will be asked to sign papers saying they will avoid public transit and public places. But if they dont sign, county leaders will issue court orders restricting their movement.
That was decided during an emergency afternoon meeting of the Dallas County Commissioners Court. Commissioners called the meeting consider a declaration that would have expanded County Judge Clay Jenkins power to control the movement of any person in a designated emergency area.

Doesn’t the Judge need a bit of confinement himself after contact with Duncan’s family?
Yeah , how did that work out for Dr. Nancey Sniderman ?
“But if they dont sign, county leaders will issue court orders restricting their movement. “
But flights from Liberia will continue unabated.
??????- Tom
Exactly.
Quarantines close can’t help much if quarantines far (africa) are not in place.
The workers will be asked to sign papers saying they will avoid public transit and public places.
Heck! ole Duncan lied his way out of afrikaa. The honor system here is disfunctional and will perform disfunctionally at a rate which will be exponentially inversly proportionally to intelligence involved.
“avoid...public places”
Just like Clay Jenkins.
smh
Wonder if any of the 75 will force the issue. I would, just to spite Clay Jenkins.
I wouldn’t voluntarily quarantine unless flights from ebola land are terminated.
The local nurses are already pissed off. This will go over very poorly I suspect.
Forget this voluntary crap. Make it mandatory. Put them in guarded isolated quarters. Voluntary doesn’t get us anywhere but OHIO!
Vinson’s mother flew down to Dallas to be with her but now that they’ve moved Vinson to Atlanta, her mother is being asked to self quarantine herself in Dallas. A lot of good that did to potentially infect another plane full of people and be stuck. Where is she? In a hotel room? She’d have to go out to get food and housekeeping will have to come in to give fresh linens and take out the trash. Who’s paying for the room? If she gets sick, then what?
Dallas County’s top public health epidemiologist confirmed Thursday that she spent time at Duncan’s bedside. She’s doing the voluntary quarantine. The judge should move in with her.
You’re speaking of Ms. Chung, who was at Duncan’s bedside before the tests came in. It’s been about 16 days... her odds of non-infection are maybe 60-40, and getting better every day.
No thanks to the CDC sitting there and leaving the hospitals to do OJT (on the job training).
