> Does anyone know whether animals are carriers or not?
They are, starting with the obvious observation that although we don’t know what the persistent natural reservoir is for this virus, the index cases in Africa get it from wild animals such as bats and monkeys.
It has also been observed in pigs, and dogs tested positive in 2005 tests, but apparently they are just asymtomatic carriers. For how long, and what risk they pose to humans is an open question.
