The forerunner of ISIS was establishing a lab to produce toxins in northern Iraq Some members of the group then as now were officials in Iraq’s intelligence services and had cells operating both in Baghdad and the north. Their lab was in the north near the border with Iran. Iraq was providing them with funds and other support while Iran was permitting them free passage between Iraq and Afghanistan before the invasion. Those associated with the lab and the group were involved in the assassination of Lawrence Foley a USAID official in Jordan, and also with a plot involving ricin cream that was intended to target mass transit in the UK and elsewhere, if I recall correctly a bobby was murdered in a terror raid on their safehouse in London. They were also directly linked with the Milan Italy terrorist cell which was recorded by the Italians prior to 9/11 talking to each other about the upcoming 9/11 attack, though the recordings evidently were not translated in time to be of use. And they were also directly linked with al Qaeda’s anthrax guy, I think he was out of Malaysia.
