URGENT: ISIS seizes 3rd largest military base in W. Iraq and takes tanks, hvy weapons, supplies

On Monday Iraqi military sources confirmed the fall of the military base of Hit, which includes a training camp and the base of the seventh division of the Iraqi army, after a major attack of the organization ISIS, using suicide car bombs and rocket-propelled grenades.

The military sources said that “the organization ISIS attacked the army base in Hit, the third largest military bases in western Iraq, from several axes, and carried out a series of suicide attacks on the walls of the base by car bombs, as well as a missile attack lasted about an hour which led to the storming of the base after the withdrawal of the army from it. “

In a related context, lieutenant colonel, Rahim Aljughaifi said that “ISIS have seized the contents of the base and the training camp, including tanks, heavy weapons, munitions and stores, as well as spare parts and different military supplies,” adding that “the army had requested help of the international coalition during the attack on the base, but the latter did not respond’, asserting the control of ISIS on the three towns surrounding the base.”

It was a delusion that we would be able to “install” or “sell” democracy to Iraq. With zero history of a civil society and with a solid history to the beginning of time of a pre-medieval culture, there was that missing element. It surprised me at the time that there was no understanding of the idea that *any* political system ex-Islam is a de facto rejection of Islam. We were asking people to reject their religion. That never works.

The reason it didn't work was because people like Hillary and Kerry etc - even most of our guys - see democracy in stupid terms like 'voting'. Every tototalitarn hellhole has voting. Saddam So-Insane had voting... and over 98% turnout. What people want in this country - and in those countries is a Bill of Rights that protects them FROM their thuggy governments. THAT we could have sold to them. But our Blowards like Kerry, Obama, Hillary are no different than the thugs in the ME - power freak narcissists... what's different is we stop their grandiosity with the Constitution.

A billion purple fingers showing a vote isn't worth two cents if you can't stop midnight knocks and people being murdered by the State. They know that over there... we know it over here.

It could have succeeded. ... People from all over the world try to escape to our country - BECAUSE THEIR RIGHTS ARE PROTECTED HERE... not because they 'get the right' to vote for Obama or Romney...or some other blowhard.

Islam spread throughout history because reluctant converts were simply killed, their churches razed, and mosques built. There’s nothing voluntary about Islam.

There was massive discussion of whether to leave the emperor in place in Japan after WW2 (Tojo was the prime minister, not the emperor, and was hanged for war crimes) and ultimately it was decided to permit the emperor to remain but that a separation of church and state was enforced and later became a mandated constitutional change. The emperor was relegated to a purely ceremonial figure. Japan has an emperor today. You never hear about him.

I don’t understand your line of argument. The Iraqi constitution is a mish-mosh of a self-contradicting document that is essentially meaningless, granting ultimate authority simultaneously to Islam and “democracy” which is impossible. If “no law shall contradict Islam”, then their constitution is by definition subservient to their religion, Islam, and any constitution we might have imposed or suggested or they came up with on their own would have, just as I said, contradicted Islam. It *might* have been possible to have secured a segment of Iraqi society that wanted a secular government, but I maintain that the only way this could occur was indeed to have a vicious strongman or other regime in place; like a Saddam Hussein or any of the other brutal dictators in these countries. That’s assuming the world is a static place and other forces in that part of the world would sort of sit by and allow a Western style partial democracy take hold. There was possibly a 10% chance of this all working out if we were willing to stay there for 50 years. But with zero history of the kind of civil society that developed in most western nations, it was the longest of long shots.
