Dangerous precident. What happens when the state decides they don't like your politics? They cut off your utilities?

There are legal means at their disposal to tackle the problem, but that would mean following a due process. Like it or not, the public utilities are not an enforcement agency. If you pay your bills, you get the services.

If the “California effect” still works, this bad precedent will indeed spread eastward like a dust storm.
