State Police have arrested a 10-year-old boy and charged him as an adult in the beating death of a 90-year-old woman in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
Authorities say the boy was visiting his grandfather, the woman's caretaker, on Saturday when the woman shouted at the child for entering her room. They say he punched her in the throat numerous times.

The article says the child reported the victim was injured, to the grandfather.
The article says the grandfather checked her twice and the SECOND time she was unresponsive. Sorry,,what about the first time,,was she clear as a bell?
Something is not adding up.
It is weird, as most of the time the law is completely arbitrary (driving at 16; consenting for sex at 16; smoking at 18; drinking at 21; etc. etc.), with no regard for the fact that different people are at different maturity levels when they reach those ages, yet in this one instance there is nuance.
I have always heard, “Only the good die young”. If that is the case, the Clintons will live forever. My personal beliefs is that each morning Satan pleads with God, “God, please do not send those sons of bitches to me today. I know that eventually I will get them, but I want to delay it as long as possible.”
Age 6 is the age that historically has been used as the defining point as to when a child knows right from wrong. Of course that was set at a time whe parents actually taught right and wrong to their kids.
IMO, someone at 10 who murders someone is not going to amount to anything anyway so take em out.
Sure, but in the examples you gave, there are set ages that we adhere to. You can drive when you are 16, not you can drive when you are 16 unless we think you are really mature then we will let you drive at 14. You can consent to sex at 16 but we dont say you can consent at 16 unless you look older and your English teacher is really, really hot. There is an age, and that age is the law.
In this case, we have a law, presumably 18, that we say before this age you are a juvenile. Now, I dont care if you want to make that age 17 or 16 or whatever, but whatever it is, that should be what it is. It just doesn’t seem like you should be able to set an age and then randomly be able to change it if this or that attorney gives a good argument, or this or that judge decides a crime is more awful than normal. It sounds like ad hoc law.
Reading the whole article - he used a weapon (a cane) on the elderly woman, as well as his fists.
For less serious crimes it gives kids an opportunity to learn without minor infractions screwing up their entire life.
Keep in mind treating children like adults is a leftist goal. It frees them from the parents giving the state more control.
Agreed on the second part, but on the first part you could just take the age in at sentencing. It worries me when you have a situation where law as written can be changed by the whim of a judge. What if it went the other way. Perp is 20, but because we’ve decided he’s really immature, we’re going to charge him as a juvenile.
How many people can he kill before we are allowed to do anything?
I knew before I went to kindergarten that it was wrong to kill someone, and what would happen to me if I did.
Good thing he didn’t have a gun. Someone might have been killed.
Story is kind of confusing, at least to me after I read the ABC summary. So, was the grandfather the caretaker of this woman at her home, or his home, and how old is the grandfather? If the grandfather was employed as the caretaker of this woman, then he had a responsibility for her welfare - which includes not letting his 10 year old grandson be with her unsupervised. This isn’t an excuse for the violence, but there are a lot of blanks not filled in.
I’d prefer the judge to have leeway on individual cases. In the grand scheme it makes for more justice and less of a legal system.
The only way a 20 yr old can be treated as other then an adult is to be determine to be insane or mentally incapable (IQ < 70 or so).
Normally I wouldn’t worry about a 10 yr old.
Doesn’t mean anything.
Case in point: Brak Ubama and his grandfather.
Gangs recruit juveniles specifically because they won’t be prosecuted as an adult if they get caught!!!
We need a ban on all 10 year olds and canes!!
