Mossadegh, i have nothing against him, was first & foremost a Nationalist; that can be good & bad. He did have socialist leanings too. And socialists, communists & later islamists were about to use him for their own agendas. Moreover, he did not have nor exercise diplomacy. Whilst back then the nationalization oil was a very contentious issue in Iran, and of course even the Shah wanted that, Mossadegh’s approach worked to the detriment of Iran. More so had he been permitted to continue with his antics.
Just wanted to say i like your name here, noticed it earlier; thought maybe you spoke German.
Thanks, no it’s a nickname supposedly given by the Germans in WWI to Marines. It meant that they fought like the legendary hounds of hell. Old, well that’s self explanatory... : ) But really, I’m just a kid!! At least that’s how I feel..
Thanks for the explanation. My husband, before he passed away couple of yrs ago from an illness, was in the U.S. military. I speak German too, that’s why I asked :)
Thank you for the condolences. I’m actually not of German heritage, just speak the language.
Bet your own life on that hypothesis. I won’t bet mine.
Cronos, post 105: "Mossadeh - remember that elected PM"
Olog-hai, post 108 "He was an Islamic socialist"
Cronos, post 176: "he was a socialist, yes, but not an Islamist"
Olog-hai, post 177: "So when has it been okay to be a socialist so long as one is not an islamist?"
Quite frankly, socialism is lower on the list of evils compared to Islamism or communism. So if there is a third-world socialist who kills communists or Islamists, we should support them
if there is a socialist who opposes a capitalist, then we support the capitalist
Right now, Israel's best bet is having Assad win a buffer state between it and the Islamic state -- no matter how terrible Hizbullah is, the Islamic state is worse.
It seems that you have gotten my birthday wrong. I was born the day before yesterday. Assertions, even if you believe them to be true, are not facts. Interpretations, even if you believe them to be true, are not facts. I have heard from others via mail about these purported facts, but not one solid, verifiable detail has been provided. If you have facts, let’s hear them. If you think you can assert an interpretation and call it a fact, however, let’s stop right now.
No, I never called Mosaddegh an Islamist, especially on the order of who rules Iran today.
If that’s what you really think of socialism, you are definitely on the wrong site.
It’s not the Seventies anymore, Dr. K.
