The real losers here are the occupants of the Donbas. Ukrainian/Russian alike. They got “Smerched.”
The reality is the Donbass is being ceded like Crimea to Russia.
For the Ukrainians, its not worth taking back. With winter on the horizon, they have other things on their plate.
With time, the sanctions on Russia will be lifted and it will be business as usual again.
