In what may be one of the most slimy campaign ads ever to air, Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis attacks pro-life candidate Greg Abbott by running an ad with an empty wheelchair that takes a shot at Abbott, who is confined to one.
Davis is the pro-abortion candidate for governor in Texas whose sole claim to fame is having filibustered against a bill to ban late-term abortions. Not content to speak out against protecting unborn babies after viability, the Davis campaign is now mocking her pro-life opponent, Greg Abbott, for being paralyzed.
At age 26, Abbott was struck by a falling oak tree that injured his back as he jogged by. He has used a wheelchair ever since and has become an eloquent pro-life advocate speaking up for both the disabled and the unborn.
The ad has produced an immediate and overwhelming backlash and response from pro-life people on Twitter:
@WendyDavisTexas you are an awful human being. really truly awful…

Wendy Davis’s 15 minutes of fame were over a while ago anyway. #GetLost Monica Crowley (@MonicaCrowley) October 10, 2014
Place your bets: Wholl be the first to claim that upset at Wendy Davis is due to an anti-woman double standard?

So… Governor-elect Greg Abbott, not too premature, right? #TXgov Ali A. Akbar (@ali) October 10, 2014
For Abbott, the accident serves as a reminder that regardless of someones circumstances, he or she deserves a chance at life, Abbott has said.
As I laid there motionless on the ground, gripped with pain, as helpless as a child in the womb, I knew my life had changed forever, he said at the National Right to Life convention in June. Some people think its easy to write off the lives of the disabled or the different. But every day, God reminds us that all life has value, no matter the form.

For campaigning on nothing but the sympathy playing the disability card can get him.
