Emmett Township Public Safety Officer Ben Hall is being called a hero because he didn't give a 25-year-old mom a ticket after pulling her over because her daughter was in the backseat without a booster seat.
Officer Hall saw Lexi de Lorenzo driving near downtown Battle Creek with her daughter in the back seat. She had a seatbelt on but Michigan law requires a booster seat for children less than 8 years old.

The fine for this infraction is pretty high given the “ zero tolerance “ laws passed by do gooder politicians.
The lady cant afford the car seat and she sure cant afford the fine for the ticket which just puts her deeper in the hole.
She probably will have to set up payments to pay the ticket and will default on the payments when she cant afford them.
Once she defaults, a warrant will be placed for her arrest.
Eventually , she will be pulled over and arrested and her car impounded.
She will have to spend time in jail until bailed out. Once she gets out of jail she needs to pay the impound fees to get her car.
And so it goes.
These types of tickets hit people going through a rough spot with devastation and often add the straw that breaks the camels back.
The officer no doubt is aware of this dynamic and did good
“Post upon post, thread after thread it seems over the years that the quality of the average FReeper is plummeting.”
WTF are you babbling about?
You cannot discern direction by observing “average FReepers”. There is no such creature. There are us old die hards. There are long time lurkers. And there are newbies. Some newbies come because they have finally found a home where they can grow. Other newbies don’t get it and find themselves zotted.
FR is nearly 20 years old. A generation ago a few of us gathered to witness against abortion, Clinton and homosexuality. Today thousands find a home here and help to develop a rebirth of freedom.
Keep the faith. We are winning the war.
Agreed.
Made me laugh, in a good way. Might your real name be Leeva Bitemark?

Just Google my user name. My namesake used her tap shoes. :-)
Awesome. I knew it. You are trouble.
Ha!
With a little luck, she’ll pass a similar favor on to someone else in the future.
Such things are good for the sole. I once paid $150 for a girl’s groceries at the store when she got to the checkout and realized she had lost her money somewhere. She offered to pay it back but I wasn’t hurting so I turned it down.
“The spirit of protect and serve still lives”
Does it? How about the guy raided over his illegal Okra? Or the guy killed by cops acting on the word of a car thief?
Sorry, but this changes none of that. And I do judge cops by those actions, since they refuse to learn from them.
As for the car seat? Seriously, acts of kindness like that are far from abnormal or limited to cops. Maybe it is so noteworthy from cops, because kind acts are so rare anymore.
Just a publicity stunt. I know deep down he wanted to taze them.
Who cares......
Way to drop a neg bomb on a nice thread..........you must be a load of laughs in your house........Sheesh!
“Just a publicity stunt. I know deep down he wanted to taze them.”
I can’t answer to the taze part, but it is a publicity stunt. This kind of act is hardly limited to LE. Unfortunately, time and again, cops would rather use a band aid on their issues and the problems the public has with them, rather than address those issues.
No number of car seats can fix out of control LE. And good PR is only as good as the next foul up that goes unaddressed.
Nice to hear about some decent cops still being out there.
What a nice guy.
Well done, sir!
It’s goofy, isn’t it. My son was 4’10” tall when he was 8 years old.
There are people with driver’s licenses who are not that tall.
That is the strangest cure for foot problems I’ve ever heard, but hey, if it works...
Was kinda hoping no one would notice my “faux paw”.
Yes, Michigan law has weight and height rules, if they are under for weight and height they still need a seat. Booster seats for older kids are still mandatory.
We have a real estate person now. She is great!
