ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) While the national media focus on the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and the patient in Dallas, the CDC is reminding Americans that sexually transmitted diseases are an ongoing but hidden epidemic.
In the United States, nearly 20 million cases of new STD infections are reported each year, reports Live Science. Since infections can persist for a long time, and because some victims are not even aware they have a disease and can easily spread it to others.
Based on data from 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the eight most common sexually transmitted diseases are: chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B virus (HBV), genital herpes, HIV, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis and trichomoniasis.
About 50.5 million current infections are in men while 59.5 million are in women, for a total of 110 million Americans with STDs at any given time.
Fifty percent of new infections occur in young people from ages 15-24 and gonorrhea is the most commonly reported STD in that age group.

Just don’t pick up the skanks at the bars over in Oklahoma!
I’m a married female, there is definately no chance of that! LOL
They are lying.
There are 316 million HUMAN BEINGS in the country.
Minus 73 million children (I know that there are a large number of kids under 17 who are not virgins, but almost 70% of our youth ARE virgins until after they turn 18)
That leaves 243 adults and elderly.
So almost half of us have a STD?
Considering that many of us are monogamous or celibate, I’ll bet that they’re lying.
One thing that I discovered when I was a teen was that *they* wanted us to *believe* that everyone else was doing it. They wanted us to believe that we were weird for abstaining. They wanted us to think that screwing around was normal.
They saw that there were 20 million new diagnosis of STDs a year, then they didn’t *think* that many of those infections were from ‘repeat customers’. They also didn’t *think* that most of these diseases are curable.
The daughter of a friend was a virgin when she married her husband. He had two relationships before her and gave her HPV. She naturally cleared it on her own three months after diagnosis.
I guarantee you that these people would count her as one of the STD ‘infected’.
Implanting the idea that promiscuity is normal - and monogamy and patience is not - is their agenda.
Really?
30% of America.
You people are asses.
Inflated and fabricated numbers means more of a fabricated problem which means even more funding to programs like Planned Parenthood.
Your point is well taken and I believe you are correct.
You are so right!
exactly.
But here’s the deeper problem.
A long time ago, I was a teenage virgin. I was taught that it was normal for teens to have sex by my school. I was taught that celibacy was abnormal. I was taught, by the school, that ‘everyone was doing it’ and that ‘it’ was normal and healthy.
My senior year, I felt abnormal because I wasn’t doing it. I’d had boyfriends, but never even come close to sex and the school’s sex-ed class had me feeling like a freak.
So, a month before my 18th birthday, I found a guy and gave it up. The words, “I may as well get this over with,” did cross my mind.
Five years later I found out that more than 80% of the girls in my age-group were virgins when they entered college.
I felt duped. I felt tricked. I was was horrified and enraged.
(This was all pre-internet. I had no way to know what was ‘normal’ or not. All I had was my school to guide me.)
Now, I’m spreading the message that it’s okay and normal not to be hysterically sexually active (for males or females) whenever I can.
And I’m getting responses. Young men (ages 15-24) who thought that they were ‘freaks’ for being virgins and young women (ages 15-24) who need to know that it’s okay to wait.
They (put quotes around that) want you to feel weird and to let it go without emotional attachment.
I’m still baffled as to *why*. Why sexual promiscuity is SO freaking important to everything evil... but it is.
It’s strange. “They” say that you’re guilty and responsible for every personal choice from what food you eat, what you smoke, and what you drink... but sex... well hell... if you want to screw a box, who is that prude to deny your natural love for a box??
Why do they want to control *every* aspect of life... *except* for sex??
I did not imply that I had claimed knowledge? Just don’t belive that the people with STDs could be that high.
About the same number of Americans who are out of work.
Coincidence?
