Actually absentee voting has a number of checks, at least in our county where I serve as an election judge. The request gets checked against the voter registration list before the ballot is mailed out. It gets checked again when it comes back and is distributed to the precinct where it is to be counted.

It gets checked a third time when the polls close and before the precinct election team opens them up to tabulate them with the precinct results. I don't know how it works elsewhere, but it is not a good place to try any funny business here in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

What is your procedure for preventing someone at a nursing home from requesting an absentee ballot in the name of a dementia patient, voting it, signing it, returning it to you?

We have been voting “absentee”, which is actually “mail in” for the past several elections, and it DOES seem like it would have more points of verification than walk-in voting. (Nebraska)

nursing homes are notorious for having staffers (or party officials) fill out the forms for those in residence.

Absentee is a guarantee of fraud.

Another source of similar fraud are homeless shelters.
