I’m trying to point out the hypocrisy of drug laws that strictly control certain drugs for public safety, yet allow nicotine and alcohol to be readily available (to adults) while they are addictive and have a large body count too.

My comment about congress is speculation as to why nicotine and alcohol are not controlled like opiods, cocaine, ect.

Aren’t all of the above addictive and kill a large number of those who excessively use them?

I was confused because, in effect, Congress did ban alcohol during prohibition, at least the sale and transportation of it. That ban did not succeed, the harm caused by Prohibition exceeded the harm caused by the ingestion of alcohol, at least in the view of the majority of the country which repealed it.
