Kansas Senate Candidate Orman: I Could 'Absolutely' Switch Parties After Picking Senate Side
NBC News ^ | 10/06/2014

Independent Greg Orman says he could change parties even after he has allied himself with Democrats or Republicans if he wins the Kansas Senate election in November.

In an exclusive interview with NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell, Orman says he would initially caucus with whichever party has majority control in the Senate, because “it’s in the best interests of the voters of Kansas that they have a senator in the majority.”

But, he added, he wouldn’t limit himself to an alliance with one party over the other, especially if the Senate is evenly split.

“If four or five months goes by, and it's clear they're engaged in the same old partisan politics, we'll be able to change our allegiances and work with the other side,” he said. “And I think that's a really strong and important tool, to hold the Senate accountable for actually getting something done.”

Asked by O’Donnell if he can envision switching parties once he arrives in Washington, Orman responded that he “absolutely” can.

“Ultimately, this is about solving problems. This is about the voters of Kansas saying - the status quo doesn't work anymore,” he said.

If he wins the November election, Orman can keep the label of independent, but he must choose to caucus with one party to carry out the day-to-day duties -- like service on Senate committees -- that make senators effective as they seek to serve their constituents.

Why the heck would the controlling party accept him? Teach him to feel like a loser.

How do you know a Democrat is lying? His lips are moving. Old joke but worthwhile remembering.

Well the Dems would accept him, because he really is one of them.

You make a good point about the Republicans if they win the majority - they shouldn’t accept him in their caucus, though I’m not sure if they could stop that.

Is this guy’s campaign symbol a wet finger stuck up in the wind ??

I could propose a suitable response to his proposal…

I cannot believe that Kansas voters would go for this, maybe some of the Sebelius holdovers, but this is too bizarre.

He is afraid of being defined.

Roberts needs to go for the jugular.

But the voters of Kansas won’t seem to mind. They’re voting him in over Pat Roberts.

Sounds like a transgendered ‘Rat.

If she decides to be female, she could be male tomorrow. If he views himself male, could cut things off tomorrow.

RE: Roberts needs to go for the jugular.

I think it might be a little too late for Roberts. I reluctantly put Kansas in the ‘I’ ( or is it in reality, ‘D’ ) slate.

The latest you gov poll had it tied 40-40. Nearly twice as many respondents as the BS Marist poll.

They had provisions preventing the Dim from withdrawing and mandating his replacement. Neither was followed, so a recall would likely be ignored as well. (I believe a Senator can only be impeached.)

Still not good enough. A well known three term senator polling this low in a supposedly wave election year when most are against Obamacare in a RED state does not inspire confidence that he can win.

I think many of you are missing his real point. He’s a leftist and intends to join the Democrats, but he promised to join the majority. He thinks he’s going to win now so he is setting the voters up for his double cross.

Obviously his promise to join a (republican) majority is meaningless.

Switching parties to “get things done”can only mean joining the Democrats to support Obama proposals and judge nominees.

I Could 'Absolutely' Switch Parties After Picking Senate Side
O'Sullivan's First Law:
All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing.
"I cite as supporting evidence the ACLU, the Ford Foundation, and the Episcopal Church. The reason is, of course, that people who staff such bodies tend to be the sort who don't like private profit, business, making money, the current organization of society, and, by extension, the Western world. At which point Michels's Iron Law of Oligarchy takes over — and the rest follows."
IOW, any senator who is unwilling to identify with conservatism will identify with “liberalism."

Orman is a liberal. Orman is a Democrat. Liberals and Democrats lie to get votes. Kansans are falling for it. Any questions?
