A lot of the charges by American and British newspapers and government officials which were brought about by Soviet spies and fellow travelers. Remember the Soviets had spies and supporters like New York times reporter Walter Duranty and Alger Hiss, a senior State Department official under President Franklin Roosevelt. This is true. The Left-Wing New York Times was a big Soviet supporter and made sure to degrade the victims of the Soviet Union like Ukraine and Poland.
