When Clay Jenkins was elected Dallas County judge in 2010, few knew whod won the seat, much less what his goals were. Jenkins was a political novice, a personal injury lawyer from Waxahachie who came from good Democratic stock. His stepfather and mother were active in the party for decades and were personal friends of Ann Richards. Ron Kirk, the former Dallas mayor and former U.S. trade representative, recruited Jenkins to work on the Obama campaign, and it was Kirk, among others, who pushed him into running for county judge.

As I recall, Jenkins was also a leading proponent of welcoming and housing the "unaccompanied minors".
