I will be VERY surprised (but very relieved) if the ‘wife’ and kids do not contract it. He was sick enough to go to the hospital for days, and then spent nights at home with him

I would give it at least 10 days. As someone pointed out on another thread, Duncan handled his ebola-positive lover, sorry landlord's daughter, on Sept 15. He flew through Dulles to Dallas on the 20th and looked in pretty good shape from the airport photo. On the 24th he had some symptoms and they were bad enough to go to the hospital on the 26th (his temp was just 100.1). He had a sharp headache, stomach pain and decrease urination. On Saturday night he had full fledged symptoms, unmistakeable. Day 12 or 13. On Sunday the 12th (day 14) we can celebrate for Youngor and the others (and us) and have some good news for the OMG crowd.

If on the other hand, one or more of them gets sick, then we are still in unknown territory. Not 100% screwed but that possibility goes up. If the pressure washer guys or others like that get it, then all bets are off.
