I’ve often thought the same thing AB.
Every time I hear that silly mantra “No weapons of mass destruction” I want to scream.
YEAH BUT THEY HAD THAT THUG SADDAM HUSSEIN WHO WAS HUNG BY HIS OWN PEOPLE!
THAT’s why we went into Iraq....Saddam should have been taken out when the first Bush went in...let’s not forget that Saddam invaded Kuwait.
Instead, over and over, no weapons of mass destruction. And never does a Republican speak up and mention the lovely Saddam. Why couldn’t a Republican with more than air between the legs ask the dolt mentioning the lack of WMD....to the effect: “You think we should have left Saddam Hussein in charge?”?
I’m jus’ sayin’.
And yeah, that No Fly Zone....wonder how much that cost us taxpayers to keep up.
You can’t win. Just like all those people who really believe Sarah Palin said she can see Russia form her house, an entire world of people believe we supported Saddam Hussein before the Kuwait invasion because he fought Iran. Never mind that Iraq never had a single US weapon system—not even 5.56MM cartridges; but millions of Soviet/Russian, French, German and British weapon systems, all sold for good oil-rich petro dollars by the look-the-other-way European arms merchants, and yet WE get the blame when our TWO enemies go at each other hammer and tongs.
It was these same Europeans that hired Hans Blix to “inspect” Iraq for 12 years without finding a thing—as they we’re moved around like a three monte shell pea... All while blaming the USA for it bellicose-ness!
I've thought it...and the Shah, Mubarik, Kadoffy, A$$head, etc.
The question should have been: "Where did Syria get all the chemical weapons of mass destruction that Russia is still 'destroying'?" And then it should be answered: "We told you it was moved from Iraq."
But back to the first question: After expending all the blood, lives and treasure to win the war in Iraq...Obola PI$$ED it all away and LOST THE PEACE!
Actually we should remember that Saddam Hussein practically asked permission to invade Kuwait and April Glaspie told him, “[W]e have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait.” The U.S. State Department had earlier told Saddam that Washington had no special defense or security commitments to Kuwait.’ The United States may not have intended to give Iraq a green light, but that is effectively what it did.”

I couldn’t wait for us to kill Hussein after 9/11 but as horrible as he and his psycho sons were, what he kept down was what we’re seeing now. Back then I recognized that he was a counter-balance to Iran, but I didn’t have any idea that there were worse actors than Hussein and Khomeini.
Can’t quite bring myself to say that people were better off under that vicious psycho but I wonder what the non-ISIS folks would say now—especially the Christians and others who saw their children cut in half before they themselves were sold into slavery or butchered like their children.
Probably the mistake was giving them a democracy where Islamists could win... OTOH I don’t think we want to have to permanently occupy the sandbox.
It’s a filthy mess and has been for well over a millennium.
