It’s truly amazing the chatting points these assclowns come up with week after week. Even Steponallofus was not buying it and cut him off short.

Agreed.

Everytime I fill up the gas tank, I bitch about Obozo pulling out of Iraq!

what depresses me is when REPUBLICANS start in on,We shouldn’t have gone into Iraq and there were no WMD’s..good God, why don’t you just register as Dem then.
And that POS colin Powell saying he was duped by Bush into going to the UN. I can’t stand that phony Jerk. the only way he got to General was affirmative action.

Nope. NOT interesting.

If I did a search in Yahoo/Google/Bing, etc on "rumsfeld reagan chemical weapons Iraq", which is what Rock did, I'd come up with lots of articles accusing all kinds of things...

"It was on the Internet, it HAS to be true."

I got here late and just waded through all the comments.

I did not see anything on the status of ISIS “on the outskirts” of Baghdad.

Last week they were either an hour or a mile away. Did they stop? Were they repulsed? If so, by whom? Are we in a TV time out, commercial break?

So many news holes!

Kurds battle IS for key Syria town as fire spills over border AFP via Bangkok Post ^ | 5 Oct 2014 at 17.45 Posted on 10/5/2014, 7:55:30 AM by GonzoII

Kurdish fighters backed by US-led air strikes battled Islamic State jihadists for control of a key Syrian town Sunday and Turkey evacuated some border areas as mortar fire spilled over.

IS fighters seized part of a strategic hill overlooking the town of Kobane late on Saturday, a monitor said, but their progress was slowed by new strikes from the coalition of Washington and Arab allies.

Yes, media Democrats constantly selling the Democrat narrative - economy’s improving when it’s not, National Security is better than ever, you won’t get Ebola from travelers, Secret Service duties are improved now that the Director resigned...

Did anyone discuss the illegal ‘executive order’ legislation for illegal immigrants when there is already is a law that isn’t being enforced? Or let’s (media Democrats) keep that off the front page till after the election...

If the jihadists seize the hilltop, he said, “the whole town of Kobane will be in their sights and it will be easier to take”.

Good point, it would likely take about 30,000 Troops to secure Baghdad. Iraqi Surge 2.0, what to do...

Hello, AB! and All. I've missed these Sunday threads and the fellowship here. However, I'm no longer able to participate regularly in online discussions.

The imminent ebola crisis (and yes, I believe it will be such, and further, that it has been deliberately contrived) compels me to make the effort to try to be helpful in whatever small sense I can.

Accordingly, I offer the link below to a special web page from "Science" magazine (updated daily) which is intended to serve as a sort of clearing house of information about this issue. I hope it will prove helpful.

The Ebola Epidemic - http://www.sciencemag.org/site/extra/ebola/

My HTML is rusty, but here's a stab at an active link:

Science/AAAS | Special Collection: Ebola

Best wishes and hopes to you all, that God will see you safely through the coming troubles.

"Public positions we may have to take."

I can see how someone could arrive at that conclusion.

...If the Obama-brotherhood wants to go in front of the nation and explain why he should be given the authority to declare war on Syria-isis then let’s hear his reasoning. This is one speech he cannot and will not give, so barring that speech and a clear mission we do not need to get into anymore Democrat wars. We do not need to get into bed with the same people who want to destroy this country far more than they want to destroy Al Queda-isil. We need to stay out of this war and let the chips fall where the liberals have thrown them. It is time to take care of America and fight the fight here. It is time to develop our own resources so we won’t have to go to war for oil. It is time to get serious about becoming oil independent and free from these barbarians. It is time to declare war on energy independence and that begins with drilling and fracking our own unending supply. It is time to throw out the Marxists and become free from Islam.

Well said!

Superb essay, Greg!

I believe we should have killed Hussein back in 1991 when we were first at the doorstep to Baghdad. Without us then having to stick around in Saudi Arabia to enforce the No Fly Zone, Al Qeada wouldn't have had near the pull it did to recruit wild-eyed Muslims to take up learning to fly planes into buildings.

Indeed, Alas. One of the biggest turning points in American history was when America refused to look beyond "the highway of death" and to finish the Gulf War.

Our loss then of the stomach for war would have been equivalent to Ike's pulling the troops off of Omaha Beach, and cancelling the D-Day Invasion.

Well, not trying to be snarky, but, I do take offense to the FALSE claim that Saddam Hussein started out as an American puppet and we supplied him with arms which is simply and prima facie false.

Then to accuse Ronald Reagan of doing so is very much a Left-wing attack on him and his administration. I’m not saying you are, but your sources very much are doing so.

In fact, the memo you just posted was basically part of the Reagan Administration’s efforts to get the use of chemical weapons stopped. During that VERY same month and year I took part in a big exercise in full MOPP 4 chemical protection gear that lasted several days. It was absolutely in our best interests to see that chemical weapons were never used, and our efforts to be ready for them was actually part of that effort. Additionally, there were reports of the Communists using chemical weapons in Laos, Cambodia and Afghanistan. the so-called “Yellow Rain”
evidence that we were presenting back then in the United Weapons. For Rumsfeld to go to Iraq with orders from Reagan to sell/give Hussein chemical weapons—which he had ready access to already from the Europeans and Soviets, would make Reagan a horrible hypocrite and “Kissingeresque Realpolitker”. Nixon maybe, but Ronnie was just not mentally and morally able to do so, I really do believe.

This memo was around the same time (November of 1983) when we had just liberated Grenada, KAL 007 was shot down by the Soviets, our Marines were blown up in Beirut, operation Able Archer (which almost led to WWIII—I was in it in MOPP gear) took place and Yuri Andorpov was dying—which caused the Soviets to be very nervous. Their propaganda against Reagan was at its height. I can tell you that times were very, very tense then—probably the most since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
