Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., a licensed physician and a possible presidential candidate in 2016, is warning that handling Ebola in a politically correct manner will rebound.
In an interview with radio talk show host Laura Ingraham, he said decisions such as keeping travel open from Africa and sending soldiers to fight Ebola “have been dominated by political correctness.”
“Because of political correctness, we’re not making sound, rational, scientific decisions on this,” he said.
Joinging the program by telephone from the campaign trail for Republicans, he started with a quip.
“I can’t believe that you don’t think it’s enough of a plan to prevent worldwide pandemic to cough into your elbow,” he told Ingraham. “Surely that should stop a worldwide pandemic.”
He noted the diseased, diagnosed this week for the first time in the U.S., remains out of control in West Africa after killing more than 3,300.
He pointed out the head of the Centers for Disease Control just a month ago said there was no need to limit travel from Africa to New York, saying, “This will never come to the U.S.,” and, “We know what we are doing. Trust us.”
“I think we should not underestimate the transmissibility of this,” Paul said. “Think about the people who are getting this the doctors and nurses who are gloved, gowned and masked.”
He said there are “people getting it who simply helped someone get in and out of a taxicab.”
“So it’s a big mistake to underestimate this,” he said.

That’s one of a common type of bogus article. Sure, Ebola is currently very rare in the U.S.
But it gets here from people coming from a tiny corner of the globe. There’s no reason not to do what you can to save the lives of those who will be lost to the effects of those who will do whatever they can to get here for care.
And, again, Ebola is not airborne in the sense that a flu is, but it still doesn’t require direct physical contact.
Did you not read my personal experience?
Ebola and MRSA are spread exactly the same way and I spent 7 days a week, 24 hours a day in close contact with my friend, helping her dress, safely transition from one position to another or from sitting to using a walker and the best part:
Preventing her from falling, which required my male strength to catch her and hold her.
No, she wasn’t heavy.
Oh, and it looks like the moderators thought better than to leave your post in “breaking”.
MRSA back at your time of exposure was only striking those with compromised immune systems. It has become less discriminating in recent years, but it is not as lethal as Ebola.
OH!??
Really?
Well, this year Ebola killed about 2,000 people, laboraty confirmed, world wide.
15,000 people will die, right here in the USA, from MRSA, and how many world wide, this year?
Only those with compromised Immune structure?
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, explain Stella Beer, who was never sick a day in her life.
Quite and very literally. Never had a cold, a fever, nothing.
She then had the temerity to live 5 more years after beating MRSA.
Believe me. She was not compromised health.
What actually happened is when she shattered her hip, they used a bunch of pins to put it all back together.
One of the pins was compromised and caused MRSA to attach to her bone.
The company manufacturing the pins actually had a recall on their product and a class action ensued, which Stella declined for reasons I won’t go into and some Freepers know why.
She beat this thing and it damned near killed her but, we traveled all over the place even with the pic lines.
That’s fine.
Can’t do anything about Mods.
I’ll be back in a few minutes guys.
Gotta run and take of something...
Nice anecdote, I’m glad she pulled through.
Here’s a broader perspective: http://bacteria.emedtv.com/mrsa/is-mrsa-contagious.html
I guess you and I and xzins didn’t catch it, eh?
However, in the mid- to late-1990s, MRSA infections started appearing in otherwise healthy people, who had not been recently hospitalized or had a medical procedure.
Many people wonder if MRSA is contagious. The answer is, yes, MRSA can be spread between individuals. This transmission normally occurs through direct skin-to-skin contact or contact with shared items or surfaces that have come into contact with someone else’s infection (such as towels or used bandages).
All of which I was in contact with, erhhh my gloved hands were...
Had to change her Pic line I don’t know how many times.
No.
Neither can become a pandemic and certainly not an epidemic.
There isn’t a casual way of transmitting the disease like there is for Flu.
It’s transmission is very specific like MRSA and AIDS.
It isn’t even a debate and CDC was on earlier saying the exact same thing but, everyone wants to argue.
As for the mortality rate of 40%-80% that’s quite the spread and I have a guess as to why that swing is so wide.
A variance of more than 5% is not a trustworthy number.
I’ll get back to you on my hypothesis...
All right.
WHO says the range is from 25-90% and the reason is several factors and being from Paleo world makes it particularly difficult to deal with.
Of the four who were transported to the USA for treatment, 100% survived and it’s unclear as to why but, they are healthy now.
Oh, btw, that was very nice of you to do.
