11th ACR is alive and well being the OpFor at Ft. Irwin.

This “Ironhorse” is a squadron from 1st Bde, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood. And mighty light on tanks for the Polish plains.

“The purpose is to be a very visible demonstration of commitment to our allies,” says Captain John Farmer, public affairs officer for the Ironhorse, formal designation of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

Oh, they’re from the 1st Cav. Div. 20 does sound light for a 700 man unit. Are they mostly mech infantry?

A cavalry battalion has several types of vehicle. It is not like a heavy armor unit. It is not intended to meet a full armor assault.

That’s the problem with being Polish - you’re in a country without strong natural defensible borders, astride a major E-W invasion corridor.
