Ebola is very, very rare. This is by far the biggest outbreak of the disease, and usually it comes on people and kills them so quickly it doesn’t have a chance to spread, I also think previous outbreaks have been out in very rural areas in Africa, those people aren’t hopping on any jet planes, but this current outbreak happened in more urban areas.

I read that this is the first case ANYWHERE outside of Africa and that really surprised me.

I'm certain there are other cases outside of Africa but the combination of lack-of-quality-medical-care, politics and economics have kept those isolated cases out of the msm. For instance, there were reports that individuals were being isolated in Belgium, UAE, France and in Saudi Arabia recently - on suspicion of exposure to ebola. Those stories faded into oblivion.
