I’m noticing a distinct absence of a point:
There are many references to the perp being apprehended out-of-state with a carload of weapons and a map to the core governmental area (as the skittish SS director notes, it did not mark the WH in particular, just the narrow area it’s in; Capitol et al would be just as suspect a destination) and the SS not seeing that as a Red Alert on the premise that he wasn’t actually doing/admitting anything illegal ...
... but despite pointing out that this man who admittedly was living out of his car (and thus had no home to return to), with a map of DC, and who admitted having that map for “sightseeing”, NOBODY observed that what he had in the car would either be ABSOLUTELY ILLEGAL in DC, or (given the confusing court rulings of late) even if legal, EVERY LEVEL OF DC POLICE OF ALL KINDS would DO EVERYTHING THEY WOULD TO INCARCERATE HIM AS LONG AS CONCEIVABLY POSSIBLE. Instead, they talked to him for a while and let him go.
And when he was found with an axe at the WH fence, same result. Let go, not “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”.
