What is the political origin of such rhetoric?

You’ve answered your own question. All the rhetoric is political in origin. The politicians driving the rhetoric are ignoring their own intel and have done so for years. ISIS has been mentioned many times in the President’s daily briefings ever since we pulled out of Iraq.

Obama claims that we were forced to leave Iraq because of the lack of a status of forces agreement that held our military harmless for collateral damage.

OK... So under what legal basis are our new troops going to be under??? The first reinforcements we sent to Baghdad and Irbil are under diplomatic protection. There will be about 5,000 of our military in country, boots on the ground, by the end of the year. Including a divisional HQ. All diplomats??

It is the White House morons forcing the Pentagon to tiptoe in Iraq.

ISIS is not a threat to the West, not now. They will be training on how to duck and run for cover for some time.

Al Nusra is a larger threat because they are better connected to AQIM, AQAP, AQ, Qatari money, Libyan weapons, etc. We invented the name “Khorasan Group” which is nothing more than a task cell within Al Nusra.

Iran is the only force, with Hezb’ Allah and Assad that could effectively counter ISIL and Al Nusra. But for many reasons, we can’t work with them, mainly because of the Saudi’s.

BTW, it was the Iranian Quds force that kept Irbil, and our 3 month old consulate, from being captured by ISIL early on until we could get a QR team there to stiffen the Kurds.

"Iran is the only force, with Hezb’ Allah"

Not so, as said before Turkey and/or the Saudis could also eliminate this threat the the emotional well-being of the west:)

It could also be done with a single US Infantry division and associated logistics/air support.

The ONLY reason these guys are not dead or hiding in a hole right now is because no organized force has taken them on.

They are simply street thugs, noting more.

Agree, they are a threat to the locals. Saudi is not amused as ISIS is following almost exactly the same blueprint, including beheading, that Ibn Saud used in the 20s to grab what is now Saudi Arabia.

The ultimate goal of ISIS and other similar groups is to take over Mecca and Medina and replace the Saudi king, i.e. to be the new “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques”. The fact that the original sites were destroyed many years ago is not of importance to them. They are fighting for a fiction that is imprinted in their brains. No wonder that they are against the West as science and technology not to mention democracy is considered anathema.
