Well, you get what you pay for, and as a country, we have spent more subsiding dependency, baby mamas and bastardy, the thug life, and various other dysfunction, than almost anything else, except perhaps bailing out businesses which were “too big to fail”. Social engineering at the extremes, the government picking the winners and losers-and the loser is the taxpaying middle class.

I seem to recall reading, I think just last year, about some school in NYC which actually planned to implement a program of paying the students to attend class (on the taxpayer dime of course). I don’t know if they actually did implement it or not.

Didn’t mean to sound accusatory, just adding on to your well-said comment :)

I just read the article and about halfway through the comments. The leftists are doing their usual of defending the stance of Rebecca Brown, research coordinator for the Urban Strategies Council, who says, “I think it’s important to get past the blame of parents and start looking at the challenges that the parents are facing,”.

Now that is just really rich, when they are unfailing in their attempts to blame whites for every problem in the black “community”, even to the point of digging up such things as “white privilege” (being born white), and “micro-aggressions” (being in the presence of a white person) because they have run out of real, pervasive racism to blame. So, when it can be blamed on whites, no matter how contorted the “reasoning”, that will be the go-to position. If it can’t (yet) be blamed on whites, then no blame must be found at all.

I was impressed by the number of people in the comments who were like “YES blame the parents!”

It’s not little 5-yo Tamika’s fault if she doesn’t go to class. It’s not the teacher’s fault. It’s not whitey’s fault. It’s not Obama’s fault. It’s not Al Sharpton’s fault. It’s not society’s fault.

It’s 100% on the parents to make sure their kid is in school every day.

No excuses.

I’m not too surprised, considering even the most big-mouthed leftist is a hypocrite who loves to push “diversity” on the middle class while trying to keep it away from their own schools and neighborhoods. See Tim Wise, one of the biggest-mouthed of the cheerleaders for the demise of the white race, who lives in a gated community with other whites.

” condemned to lives of poverty and violence and crime. “

Exactly the outcome all the race baiters are looking for. They need the disparity to keep the $$$ flowing to those “providing solutions”.

Everytime I see the phrase “deep racial divide” I have the urge to vomit.

Maybe the kids are sick and tired of the crap they have to put up with in CA schools.

Maybe they can hand out Swisher Sweets at the front door in the mornings, that way no one will have to miss school in order to restock...

The simplest ‘fix’ would be for parents to pay for the education of their own brood.

Even better, would be to pay each teacher...kids more inclined to the arts? Pay for band, pottery, drawing, etc. Inclination to ‘hands-on’? Maybe shop, vo-tech. That’d really show how much sex-ed it needed, and better teachers would be sought out and as ‘on the hook’ as the parents for teaching (no more ‘passing ‘em just to get rid of the problem).

In my most totalitarian moments, I think kids that don’t make a certain GPA, cut up in class, ditch class, and so forth should be bussed out to the woods and made to thin forests all summer.

Hard labor has a way of teaching a kid what’s up, and it’s better than a summer of hanging out with hood rats, making babies, smoking weed, and drinking cough syrup.

Excellent analysis! Yeah, the whole problem with Black failure as a “community” here in the US is the fault of everyone but the Black’s themselves. Now, I think that soft racism (and some hard racism too) still exists, but it seems to devolve down to who is going to “blink” first. Until Blacks successfully tackle their huge “contribution” to the nation’s crime picture, they are in for continued rough sledding. And that’s sad for those in their community that have the will to try and get out because they are continually tarred with the “crime brush” the “less well motivated” in their ethnicity cause all to be painted with.

We see that a lot in NYC schools, too. About 75% of blacks are born outside of wedlock in NYC and about 60% or more of Hispanics are born outside of wedlock. Their absenteeism rates are far above those of white students. Their suspension, detentions, and any other disciplinary rates are far above those of white students as well. Many of them are barely socialized. They reply to requests to put their cell phone away or to stop talking in class with, "F__ you, I gonna kill you wid a knife/gun/whatever." They fail to take notes in class, or do homework, or turn in assignments. When you call home, it is amazing how many of these "parents" didn't know that grade cards just came out, let alone saw their kid's grade card. They aren't even sure their kid is in school! "Well, I dropped him off..." Ha, and the kid didn't even go into the school--they ran off somewhere to hang out. Not that you, "parent", would know that.

It starts at home. Nothing else to be said.

It was growing up in BFE (the ‘country’) that put me straight. Knowing I didn’t have mass-trasit, had to pay for the car/insurance/gas/maint./etc....And then being in MD, under 25; talk about a raping but to make a few $$$

Sorry, by ‘my solution’ would mitigate the problems of the ‘slackers’. A few uppity moments w/ the payment up front (now forfeited as they get tossed); parents WILL make sure they fall in line and LEARN.

Course, I guess there is a place for ditch diggers still...

WARNING!

The phrase "deep racial divide" is code for "White People Are At Fault".
