The healthcare system is just not designed to handle something like a plague. Even in this country most victims of a mass outbreak would be dying at home in bed because there is no room in the hospital and maybe there is a fear of whatever triage centers spring up in stadiums and large parking lots.

I asked one of our resident Ebola ‘Experts’ this exact question what happens when the medical system becomes overwhelmed.

A infection rate of .5% of a population of 300,000,000 million is a little over 1,500,000. How long would the medical system last under such?

They didn’t have any snappy answer.
