Years ago my car got “booted” for an alleged parking infraction. I called the number on the device to find out what sort of extortion they wanted. It was $100 which was a huge sum in those days. I called my brother who came out and torched off the boot.
I then called the tow outfit and demanded $150 to return their boot.

A college bud of mine got booted and had a similar experience. Only he was a mechanical engineer and figured out the tools he needed to take the thing apart. That's exactly what he did and set the pieces on a nearby curb.
I love your way of thinking! That sounds exactly like something my husband would do—he has zero tolerance for bullish*t bureaucracy.
From about 1995 to 2005 I carried a portable acetylene torch in my car.
Never used it on a boot, but a number of leftist jerks were inconvenienced.
Rather than a simple parking ticket and boot removal fee, you are now guilty of destruction of government property AND theft of a vehicle from police impound. At MINIMUM, your fine is now over $1000, PLUS the cost of a new boot. Expect to spend time as a 'guest' of the county.
