The campaign for incumbent Kansas GOP Sen. Pat Roberts is reaching into the GOP hall of fame to try to win a tight race and help the party take control of the Senate -- bringing 91-year-old Bob Dole on the trail.

The former 1996 GOP presidential nominee and Senate majority leader from Kansas will also purportedly participate in a TV ad for Roberts, as first reported by ABC News.

The 78-year-old Roberts, seeking a fourth term, is involved in one of the toughest and most unusual races of the midterm cycle.

Mr. Dole, as an original RINO, it’s time to go back on the porch and sit in your rocking chair. Your wisdom is not needed.

Didn't Bob Dole say he would move back to Kansas and retire if he lost his Presidential run? He still lives in DC.

Doesn't that say it all?

I could vote for Roberts if I were in KS; there are so many worse than he.

If Roberts can run in KS despite the fact that he doesn't live there, why can't you vote in KS despite the fact that you don't live there?

I think 20 years is too long. One six year term for the senate. Three 2 year terms for the House. One 6 year for the president. Nobody serves more than 6 years and abolish the pension

That was part of the “where does she really live?” question. The topic came up in her first campaign but didn’t make much of a ripple. However after she won,she seldom came back to the state.
I was involved at the county and district level in the Republican party. We begged her to attend events in our area and she repeatedly declined. When she began her second campaign she had no qualms about asking us to send her our hard raised money. Money she had not helped us raise. And she still would no agree to a dinner or meet and greet to help us raise more.
The Kay Hagan gaffe was a stake in the heart of Dole’s campaign. Hagan could and did produce people who knew where she lived, worshipped, and worked. She was able to present the face of a real North Carolinian and Dole was shown to be what she was, a real DC insider.

It’s too bad Jesse Helms didn’t try to push a replacement, but he didn’t think that was his prerogative to do so. J. Bennett Johnston, Jr., in LA though, pushed Mary Landrieu as his successor, and she’s still there, for a while at least.
