Barack Obama will not be pledging any cash to a near-empty fund for poor countries at a United Nations summit on climate change next week, the UN special climate change envoy said on Friday.

The UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, has challenged the 125 world leaders attending the 23 September summit to make “bold pledges” to the fund, intended to help poor countries cope with climate change.

The UN has been pressing rich countries to come up with pledges of between $10bn and $15bn.

“We are putting a lot of pressure for them to do it at the summit on the 23rd,” the UN envoy and former Irish president, Mary Robinson, told the Guardian on the sidelines of a US Agency for International Development meeting. But she added: “I know the United States is not going to commit because I’ve asked.”

Thank you for referencing that article Dallas59. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Note that Justice Joseph story had indicated that the federal government cannot use the General Welfare Clause as an excuse to justify foreign aid to any country.

“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833) .

The comments at the article’s site are mostly from staunch AGW believers. It’s amazing how emotional and hatefully anti-US they are; a testament to the power of the media.

the sickest part of this whole damn scam is that when NOTHING changes AFTER we’ve thrown trillions of dollars at it - they will simply claim “Well by golly it would have been a LOT worse IF we hadn’t poured all this money into it- thank goodness we acted when we did or else”

I can NOT believe our main stream media AND the liberals want ot destroy this country so badly- We are facing enemies from overseas, but my gosh- it’s the enemies on the left in THIS country that are the ones that are going to destroy this country financially!
