Yes, this must absolutely be true.

My father and all the holocaust survivors in my family and the others I’ve known all would have at one time been thrilled to be able to have been precious commodities on another man’s farm rather than being vermin their government tried to exterminate (the Nazis’ official word).

Their days of horror were in their own lifetimes, not a few generations back, and of course, none of them were able to rise above the racism and abuse in their past. They all resorted to gutter living like these criminals in Ferguson. Why, my own father, so beat down at losing his parents to concentration camps for his whole childhood, reacted just like any other poor boy from the hood. He looked around and saw other guys on the streets around him, guys he decided to emulate.

They were members of a gang in the late 1950s: UCLA students. He too had to perform initiations to be jumped into the “gang.” He worked three jobs to be able to afford it. Once he got himself enmeshed in the subculture of learning, it was hard to get out. He worked his way through grad school and medical boards and finally got out the spray paint and tagged his shingle and opened his private practice.

Just like any grown underprivileged guy from the hood, he spent his nights getting his buzz on: a couple fingers of scotch as he wined and dined other doctors and built enduring connections. After thirty years of hangin’ out, he retired, and then could bum around all day looking for money where he could find it, such as collecting dividends and trading stock.

Yes, it’s true. No one can ever rise above racial hatred in one’s past. Not possible.
