She is a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University, one of the top-ranked graduate programs in the country? And she doesn't even get a basic fact right like what year slavery was abolished in Haiti. (1804 was the year the Haitians declared independence from France--slavery was abolished more than a decade earlier.)

Slavery existed in the New World before the Spanish arrived, among the Indian tribes.

It costs over $60,000 a year to attend Columbia. No offense, but unless I was getting a full scholarship, there is no freaking way I would waste that kind of money to study Latin American History. It better be science, engineering, law, and medicine I’m studying for me to fork over and borrow that kind of money.
