Democrats Pin Senate Hopes on a Kansan
The New York Times ^ | September 19, 2014 | Jonathan Martin

Posted on 09/20/2014 8:38:01 AM PDT by centurion316

The Senate race in Kansas may suddenly be the most crucial contest in the country. Republicans are scrambling to protect a longtime incumbent. Bob Dole is back on the campaign trail. The state’s Democrats have no candidate and are trying to say as little about that as possible. And a 45-year-old investor from suburban Kansas City may hold the key to control of the Senate in January.

At the beginning of the year, no one thought that Kansas — which has sent only Republicans to the Senate since 1938 — would be critical in determining the balance of the Senate. But a Kansas Supreme Court ruling on Thursday that allowed the Democratic nominee to withdraw his name from the ballot made that prospect real.

Democrats are celebrating the ruling. Their candidate may be off the ballot, but his departure benefits the investor, Greg Orman, who is running as an independent, and hurts the longtime Republican incumbent, Senator Pat Roberts, who had already been tripped up in his expected waltz to re-election.

A major factor in Mr. Roberts’s troubles has been the unexpected rise of Mr. Orman, who has been coy about his intentions if he should be elected, refusing to say if he would caucus with Democrats or Republicans. But his election has the potential of keeping the Senate out of Republican hands if the chamber is narrowly divided after the elections.

IS this another poorly run RINO campaign in Kansas, like the same in VA and NC? Where there are no attack ads and stupid biography “i’m like you” themes?

Oh....I could not agree with you more!!! Roberts has to get with the program and verbally rip this guy, Orman to pieces. He (Roberts) better realize that Democrat hopes are fading all over the political landscape....and they are grabbing at every straw they can. Roberts & company....better start a massive campaign, right now, to take this guy, Orman down!!!

The Democrats have enlisted all their low life, media vermin, like Martin, telling us that Dems are coming back!!! That ain’t happening....but we gotta fight like the country’s future resides on destroying the Democrats politcally.....and it does!!! All Americans....vote against any Democrat running for office this year....everyone of the Democrats, have worked and voted, in unison, abetting, Obama in his planned destruction of the American Republic!!!

Thanks to the GOPe, the Dims (via Indy) will win Kansas. Bank it. Roberts is an unmitigated disaster.

And no one cares that he isn’t really Indy. They just want to get rid of Roberts. I don’t blame them.

Do you support that outcome? Will you be pleased to see Roberts defeated by Greg Orman? If so, I’d love to hear how you think that will be a good thing for conservatives.

Conservatives should not vote for Roberts.

So, you want Harry Reid to continue as the majority leader and allow Obama to continue to nominate any communist judge he wants to the courts for life, judges that will be on the bench long after Roberts is dead?

I'd rather have the new conservatives like Ben Sasse coming in be part of a majority part and influencing the agenda of the majority, not helpless to stop the on slaughter of liberal judges being put onto the courts.

No, it will be the fault of anyone letting Orman win and Harry Reid retain his position as majority leader.

It's time to stop whining and realize stopping Democrats from controlling the Senate is the objective.

You are asserting that a consistent liberal lockstep voter in Congress is some how okay if they are part of the Republican Party.

That is a position several orders of magnitude more liberal than Oak Grove ‘ position.

You vote for evils because they have a party letter in front of the name on the ballot, and eventually people like Mitt Romney and Lindsay Graham control that party.

Your brand of politics created the current situation.
A fact that is no longer plausibly deniable.

You are asserting that a consistent liberal lockstep voter in Congress is some how okay if they are part of the Republican Party.

What is being asserted is that there IS BIG DIFFERENCE between Roberts and establishment Republicans and Democrats. Anyone that can't see that after six years of Obama has their head in their ass.

EVERY REPUBLICAN voted against Obamacare. JUST ONE MORE "RINO" or establishment Republican and Obamacare WOULDN'T HAVE BECOME LAW. The Republicans in the Senate HAD BEEN BLOCKING radical liberal judges from the bench before Harry Reid and the Democrats implemented the nuclear option.

The idea there isn't a dime's worth of difference hetween Republicans and Democrats is one of the most destructive lies ever told here.

Pulling Dole, 91 out of the nursing home should really motivate the base in Kansas.

If the GOP loses, the bulk of the blame will fall on Roberts himself who didn’t think that he should have to be bothered to mount a reelection campaign.

Or bother to live in the State he represents. The biggest problem with Roberts is that the new generation of Kansans see him as an outsider.... a Washington insider who has not lived in Kansas since his kids were in school. The fact that he will be 84 years old when the upcoming Senate term ends does not help him either.

On the other side of that coin, if it was widely publicized that he will caucus with the Dems, that could fire up the left-leaning Indys and the Democrats in KS who have not had a Dem Senator in decades.

Democrats pin hopes on voter cheating.
___________________________________________________________

Why of course. It’s worked so well for them. Let’s see, there hasn’t been a Democrat elected to the Senate in KS in over 75 years. Yep, that “cheating strategy” has been working well for those Dems.

...all of you have allowed your emotion and frustration with the GOP establishment to drive you to irrational acts and statements.

Yep; and it sure feels good to see the likes of Mitch McConnell, Karl Rove and Thad Cochran sweating like a bunch of whores in church.

I don't consider a lockstep vote AGAINST Obamacare and AGAINST Obama's "stimulus" is liberal.

We do have some RINO reps. But even Scott Brown and Kirk in IL vote pro military. And we also have some conservatives and you will not find those in Reid's party.

Hey Din.

The GOPe’s must be pretty desperate to send Dole on the campaign
trail for Roberts.
