I’d like to start buying silver. Is there a website you would recommend, a site that you trust, that tells about the ins and outs of owning precious metals?

I have a local dealer that deals with silver ingots, junk silver, and gold. I buy a little silver weekly at spot prices. Now is a great time to buy silver for Christmas gifts. I’m a little cautious of buying from websites. eBay has some good prices on ingots often at spot prices and free shipping.

Buy locally from a dealer or pawn shop. American Eagles sell about ten percent over spot, or you can buy rounds at just over spot. Estate sales are good as well.

There are many reputable sites that sell silver. All of them have materials that explain the market. Prices don’t vary much—silver is a commodity. Various coins sell over spot, but otherwise, silver is just silver.

It is probably a good time to buy. Prices may go lower but I really doubt below $15, if that low.

kitco.com is a reputable seller of precious metals. As regards the ins and outs of owning, don’t know.

I have bought and sold silver at Kitco, APMEX and Universal Bullion. They are three reputable dealers. Kitco.com has links to all sorts of news and analysis which may be helpful.

I just used JM Bullion for the first time. Good customer service, good prices for wire transfer or checks, and free insured shipping. I will probably use them again. I paid using a wire transfer and got my order in one week. It takes longer for a check order, and costs 4-6% more for credit card orders. Larger orders are cheaper per ounce, of course. See post #45
