They were issued and wore bullet proof vests on every call. The fire engine would get beer bottles thrown at it. The station was shot up in a drive by. Broke out every glass window in the front of the office.
During the Rodney King riots, fire and ambulance were sniped upon. They sent in a marine corps sniper team and the problem was abruptly resolved.
