I don’t understand the # in front of “BrendanTevlan”.

I’ve seen it being used all over the internet lately. Is this some new use of #, and as what? It used to indicate a number would follow, but now what does it mean?

It's my understanding that the # is an addressing equivalent for Twits to @ on the web .. a routing thing to that particular 'thread'.

It’s for Twitter. It’s called a hashtag. Things “trend” on Twitter by the amount of times the hashtag is re-tweeted.
