I have some inside left contacts on this and it is pretty scary stuff. What’s missing in this excellent analysis is the absolute collusion between government agencies and catalist. Activists on the left sue govt agencies for huge swaths of data and rather than fight the agencies turn over govt data to catalist.
The levels of collusion in the catalist are as alarming as it’s systemic behaviors.
A real republican house or senate would at least hold hearings on this.
The front-end data collection seemed to be the only part of it they really cared about getting working right away.
Yup, I’m aware of all that.
The problem is how the GOP/Conservatives can catch up and counter this. Or even whether they can, at this point. Horses nose in the tent, and all that.
There’s a tipping point out there. But has it been crossed yet ... ? I’m really starting to think that it has, and what’s coming is both predictable and inevitable.
I’m sure the Republican elite will learn from this and micro target the far right. What am I thinking they have already targeted us, to pi$$ us off and drive us away.
The funny thing is that Obama has no charisma and little apparent intellect. He has to rely on every technical advantage and cheat every way he can.
Reagan didn’t need a super database to unite the nation in a coalition unmatched in history. He understood America and had a POSITIVE message. He would still win in a landslide tomorrow. People want to believe in a positive vision.
If the GOP would just grow some balls and push a bold, conservative message, they would stand a chance. Parties don’t succeed based on leadership; leadership succeeds based on a competent team.
The vision is crafted in those smokey back rooms and then everyone can get on the same page. It’s not really that hard. It’s called teamwork— something the GOP seems to have forgotten.
This isn’t Obama, he’s just the current/most recent beneficiary.
This is Ickes. Who’s just about the nastiest piece of work out there (following in his Dad’s footprints in that regard). Ickes is a big Clinton partisan too. It’s going to be damn interesting to see how this is leveraged in the 2016 primaries if Hillary has a decent challenge.
It’s right out of “Philip Dru, Administrator”, by “Colonel” House.
Glenn Beck brought this book to light, a while back. It’s basically a how-to-do-it manual for the Progs.
There’s a Kindle version. If you’re interested.
The Nazi propagandists, including Dr. Joseph Goebbels, say the got the bulk of their techniques and ideas from the Wilson people.
How many cats on this list?
Journalist (or Obama) doesn’t know how to spell catalyst?
They don’t need REAL voters. The program tells them exactly which polling places and how many “extra” votes they need. The crap in this article is the Hocus Pocus.
From the dearth of replies to this post I come to these conclusions:
1. This post isn’t sexy or wacky enough—or is too long and complicated—to get good readership by Freepers.
2. The Republicans are supposed to be great at business and have an edge on businessmen in their ranks, but can’t build a cyber tool like Catalist to motivate their base.
3. Too many conservatives are more concerned with ideological purity than winning elections that would take our country back and halt the transformation of it by the Dems.
4. The idea that technology in politics can be overcome by mouthing slogans is the equivalent of charging tanks with horses.
5. This election should be a runaway for the right, but many polls are showing the Dems running neck and neck. This Catalist tool may be the reason they are able to find and motivate their people.
The actual name of the program is votebuilder. You need a password to see it but here is an instruction manual for it.

This is based upon the voter registration lists and every election cycle it picks up more information.
I do not say this lightly but this is probably one of the most important articles EVER to be posted on FR. We have the Democrats “Enigma” and how it works but our party is still stuck on mailers and walking door to door.
I agree, but the main point of the article I think with reference to the power of the the Dem Catalist system is how all the various organizations of the Left give their data to this central cyberwar product.
The Left understands the benefit of a united front better than the Right. Because they know politics is about winning elections so you can steer the country.
In my opinion we have too many Republican organizations whose main job seems to be making money by stirring up their slice of the base to donate money, much of which usually ends up in the pockets of the organization’s leaders. I’m not saying the Left honchos aren’t out to make money, but they all realize they can better milk the herd together if they win elections.
Very interesting. What sources of data other than left-wing activists? Obamacare enrollments? Google? NSA?
Ping to an extremely important article. Please forgive my misuse of the SCOTUS ping list. If you have your own ping lists, please consider pinging them.
My experience with Operation Chaos in 2008 taught me how far Obama is willing to go. I had no idea the Dems had gone this far.
A little late in replying, but consider that management of the 2010 Census was moved from Dept of Commerce into the direct control of the White House.
Calalist ready to pounce on Republicans in November!
And PHONE CALLS!
