UKRAINE: Ukraine President Poroshenkoasks in D.C. asks U.S. Congress for aid [U.S. media blackout?]
http://af.reuters.com/article/sierraLeoneNews/idAFL1N0RJ17I20140918?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0&sp=true ^ | Thu Sep 18, 2014 6:06 | By Patricia Zengerle

Ukrainian President Poroshenko appealed for more U.S. assistance, including arms, in a warmly received appearance before the U.S. Congress on Thursday.

"Please understand me correctly. Blankets, night-vision goggles are also important. But one cannot win the war with blankets." He added: "Even more, we cannot keep the peace with a blanket."

Drawing cheers from members who want to arm the former Soviet state, Poroshenko declared his forces "need more military equipment, both lethal and non-lethal -- urgently need."

Given the honor of a speech to the joint houses of Congress reflecting U.S. support for his country's fight against Russian-backed separatists, he said Washington should slap more sanctions on Moscow and give Ukraine a special security status.

President Barack Obama's administration pledged $53 million in aid, most of it security-related but not weapons.

"HEROIC STRUGGLE"

Poroshenko put the struggle in Ukraine in historical terms, calling it "the most heroic story of the last decade."

"The outcome of today's war will determine whether we will be forced to accept the reality of a dark, torn and bitter Europe as part of a new world order," he said.

"I strongly encourage the United States to give Ukraine a special security and defense status which reflects the highest level of interaction with non-NATO allies," Poroshenko said.

He insisted that Ukraine would never accept Russia's annexation of Crimea, which he called "one of the most cynical acts of treachery in modern history."

The pro-western leader called a cease-fire on Sept. 5 after heavy battlefield losses that Kiev ascribed to Russian military intervention on behalf of the rebels.

But it is a shaky truce. Ukraine's prime minister on Wednesday told government forces to remain on full battle alert as fighting in the rebel-held city of Donetsk killed at least two civilians.

So: if a handful of Russians who find themselves suddenly on the other side of a border from their cousins and brothers buy some military surplus jackets and maybe even a few trucks, that’s a Russian invasion of the Ukraine. But it’s cool if we put boots on the ground, and sell arms to the military junta that held guns to the legislature as it “voted” to oust the democratically elected president because he didn’t want to surrender sovereignty to the European Union.

That’s pretty damned deranged thinking in my book.

I’d like to buy a couple of T-72s, APCs, and a Buk missile launcher. Know where I can find a deal?

So: if a handful of Russians who find themselves suddenly on the other side of a border from their cousins and brothers buy some military surplus jackets and maybe even a few trucks, that’s a Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

Suddenly? What are you talking about? Ethnic Russians were colonized in Ukraine decades and decades ago after the Russkies cleared out the local population. Not just Ukrainians, but German farmers, anybody, whom the regime considered a class enemy. It is common practice for the Russkies to ethnically cleanse an area and then colonize it with the children of gulag guards and other freaks.

But this is all an irrelevant fact. Ethnic Russians are a minority in East Ukraine, and, furthermore, separatists are even a minority within that minority. Consistent polls and the separatists themselves, complaining that the local population wasn't doing their part, have proven this.

As for going to the store and buying surplas jackets and maybe some trucks when they're riding on freaking tanks and shooting down airplanes with Buk launchers. My question is this: Are you a retard or just a Putinista?

But it’s cool if we put boots on the ground, and sell arms to the military junta

What boots on the ground? They're asking for arms, not soldiers. What military junta? The military "junta" is the one in Donetsk run by the Russkies. They are literally commandos and mercenaries trained in Russia. One of their generals has even come out and vowed to establish a Soviet-Style rule, complete with full socialism and executions of rule breakers. In Ukraine, it is the Ukrainian Rada which has been in charge since 2012 (new elections in October) led by a President in charge since July or August.

And just FYI, the Russkies not only sell weapons to our enemies, such as Syria and Iran, but they are even aiding Iran with their Nuclear program which threatens genocide against its neighbors. If they can do that, why can't we arm the Ukrainians who, at least, aren't Jihadis?

that held guns to the legislature as it “voted” to oust the democratically elected president

What people were there holding guns on the legislature, stupid? You don't even seem to know anything about the events that led up to Yanukovych fleeing the country. Tell me Russkie, do you think it is okay for a "President" to send goons into the streets to beat, kidnap and torture people, and then finally shoot them to death? Do you think that a people have no right to get a little upset about that going on?

because he didn’t want to surrender sovereignty to the European Union.

The association agreement is not about joining the EU. It's about removing trade restrictions and setting other standards. Israel has the same agreement with the EU. Many non-EU countries do. It is not direct membership into the EU.

That’s pretty damned deranged thinking in my book.

What's deranged is that you bothered to post on this thread when it is clear you don't know what you are talking about.

Wow, your information is so completely wrong, it’s almost funny that you wonder if I’m the “retard.” Is that you, Joe Biden?

>> Ethnic Russians were colonized in Ukraine decades and decades ago after the Russkies cleared out the local population. <<

The Donbas (Donetsk and Luhansk) was nearly unpopulated 150 years ago, because it was bad land for farming; it was settled only after a SCOTTISH businessman recognized its potential for mining.

>> Ethnic Russians are a minority in East Ukraine, and, furthermore, separatists are even a minority within that minority. <<

Nearly all Ukrainians are ethnically Eastern Slavs, and the “Ukrainian” language is an offshoot of Russian that was heavily influenced by the Polish domination in Western and Central Ukraine. Eastern Ukraine remained Russian-language because the Poles never conquered it.

Today, the only distinction between “Russians” and “Ukrainians” is by way of language. Because the Ukrainian government has suppressed the Russian language, there are many Ukrainians who consider themselves Ukrainian speakers despite being more fluent in Russian and speaking Russian in their homes. Including these people, Russians are a slight MAJORITY in ALL of the UKRAINE. Those who speak primarily or only Russian in the Donbas are a 90%+ supermajority.

>> What boots on the ground? They’re asking for arms, not soldiers. <<

We already have US troops in the Ukraine, conducting “training exercises.”
US and Nato troops begin Ukraine military exercise
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-29204505

>> As for going to the store and buying surplas jackets and maybe some trucks when they’re riding on freaking tanks and shooting down airplanes with Buk launchers. <<

I absolutely believe that Ukrainian separatists did shoot down the Malaysian jet... for one reason, they crowed about shooting down a military aircraft with a very similar profile at about the same exact time that the Malaysian jet crashed. But we also know that they had already seized a Ukrainian military base equipped with a Buk system, so we know where they got the Buk system to do it. And since that base had previously been staffed with Russian-language personnel, it doesn’t even prove that tyhey even had the help from vacationing Russians.

>> And just FYI, the Russkies not only sell weapons to our enemies, such as Syria <<

Yes. The U.S. Congress just voted to arm the very people who just promised to work hand-in-hand with Al Qaeda in Iraq (now rebranded “ISIS” since we created a power vacuum in Syria for them to occupy) to overthrow the Syrian government. Meanwhile the Russians are defending the hundreds of thousands of Christians in Syria who would have already been slaughtered had they not intervened. Sorry, but on this one, the US is fighting on the side of Islamofascism while Russia is protecting Christians.

>> ... and Iran <<

A lot less defensible, but calling Iran an ally of Russia because they’re getting Russian technological aid is the exact same thing as calling North Korea an ally of the United States: they’re doing the exact same thing in Iran that we’re doing in North Korea for the exact same reason. And it’s their own neighbor they’re dealing with.

Wow, your information is so completely wrong,

Shut up Russkie, your crap about Donetsk and Luhansk is just a red herring. I was talking about Ukraine, not just one small area within it. I suppose you are so degenerated that you even dispute Russian ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians and the other peoples who were living there. I also have no intention of getting into it with you with the Russian Chauvinist lies about Ukraine not being a real country or nationality. But if you want to believe that Russians are a majority in Ukraine, that's fine with me. It would mean, even in your twisted world, that Russians do not want anything to do with being gobbled up by the Neo-Soviets:

The red went to Poroshenko, the grey is the only place elections did not occur. I will also add that Yanukovych ran on a platform of signing the EU association agreement and getting closer ties with the West:

From a Pew poll preceding the vote, but including the grey areas:

"The headline result of Pew’s Ukrainian survey is that a large majority of Ukrainians (77%) want the country to remain united. This isn’t terribly surprising, but what is interesting is the large majority in favor of union in the eastern part of the country (70%), where Russian separatism is at its highest. Even among Russian speakers in the eastern part of Ukraine, a solid majority (58%) want to see Ukraine stay whole."

http://www.lobelog.com/poll-soft-support-for-ukrainian-separatism-putin-has-strong-backing-at-home/

But we also know that they had already seized a Ukrainian military base equipped with a Buk system

Nobody knows that except stupid people like you who believe whatever comes out of Russian media. It has been proven beyond any doubt that the Russkies have been sending people into Ukraine for months, as well as their weapons and ammunition. Like these Chechens, who certainly are not native to Donbass and aren't using weapons they just found lying around:

Here are some more Chechens riding a huge line of tanks waiting to enter into Ukraine, and bragging about it while praising Allah:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3197301/posts

Sorry, but on this one, the US is fighting on the side of Islamofascism while Russia is protecting Christians.

Shut up Russkie. You accuse the United States of arming Al-Qaeda and supposedly doing the same to North Korea, and barely bat an eye lid to Russia's support of the Islamic death cult in Iran to destroy Israel with nuclear weapons. We'd be next. And that's not the only palce they're supporting Islamics. In Chechnya Putin is building his own Islamic caliphate with the help if his buddy Kadyrov:

"His loyalty can be embarrassing even for the Kremlin. At the last elections, President Vladimir Putin and his ruling United Russia party won more than 99 percent of Chechnya's vote, with Soviet-style turnout over 99 percent. Grozny's central thoroughfare is now named after Putin. "What's happening here is absurd. It's George Orwell, 1984," said a dissident who asked that his identity not be revealed. "Nothing is going to change here any time soon. Chechen spring? Forget about it." http://in.reuters.com/article/2013/05/01/usa-explosions-russia-chechnya-idINDEE94003O20130501 'Islamisation' While rebuilding Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov is promoting what he calls "traditional Islam": it is making Chechnya feel less and less part of Russia.

Alcohol is no longer freely available in the shops; there are segregated sports facilities for men and women; at the computer store, you can buy an iPad and pick up a free copy of the Koran; painted on the ceiling of my Grozny hotel room is an arrow pointing towards Mecca.

Under Mr Kadyrov, there is also a stricter Islamic dress code. I meet one woman who tells me that she had been threatened for not wearing a headscarf in public.

She is deeply concerned by the policy of Islamisation. Fearing reprisals, the woman asks to remain anonymous.

"My niece said that a man came to her nursery school," she recalls.

"He told all the children to ask their parents whether or not they prayed, then report back to him. He said that if they didn't pray, the parents and children would go to hell.

"Clerics are going into schools and telling six-year-old boys to control their sisters, and that if their sisters don't wear headscarves, the boys will be held responsible and punished by God.

"I'm terrified. I think 10 years from now, we'll have raised a whole generation of religious extremists."

By the way, as for Al-Qaeda. From Alexander Litvinenko, the defector who was assassinated by the Russkies. Read it all the way through:

FAKT: Alexander, who, in your opinion, is the originator of this [London] terrorist attack?

A. Litvinenko: You know, I have spoken about it earlier and I shall say now, that I know only one organization that has made terrorism the main tool of solving political problems. It is the Russian special services. The KGB was engaged in terrorism for many years, and mass terrorism. At the special department of the KGB they trained terrorists from practically every country in the world. These courses lasted, as a rule, for a half-year. Specially trained and prepared agents of the KGB organized murders and explosions, including explosions of tankers, the hijacking of passenger airliners, strikes on diplomatic, state and commercial organizations worldwide.

FAKT: Could you name ... some of the terrorists prepared at the "special courses" of the KGB-FSB?

A. Litvinenko: The bloodiest terrorists in the world were or are agents of the KGB-FSB. These are well-known, like Carlos Ilyich Ramiros, nicknamed "the Jackal," the late Yassir Arafat, Saddam Hussein, Adjalan (he is condemned in Turkey), Wadi Haddad, the head of the service of external operations of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Hauyi, the head of the communist party of Lebanon, Mr. Papaionnu from the Cyprus, Sean Garland from Ireland and many others. All of them were trained by the KGB, received money from there, weapons and explosives, counterfeit documents and a communication equipment for carrying out of acts of terrorism worldwide.

FAKT: Some may object that each of the listed figures, and the forces supporting them, were engaged in solving their own political problems.

A. Litvinenko: Certainly, all these figures and movements operated under their own slogans; however, none of them especially hid their "intimate" ... relationship with the Kremlin and Lubyanka. There is a simple question: whether the Russian special services would train and finance people and groups that were not supervised by Lubyanka and did not serve the interests of the Kremlin? You understand perfectly, they would not. Each act of terrorism made by these people was carried out as an assignment and under the rigid control of the KGB of the USSR. And [the terrorism] ... is not casual after the disintegration of the USSR and [reform of the KGB]....

FAKT: Every terrorist you have named is from 'the old staff' of the KGB. Could you name someone from recent history?

A. Litvinenko: Certainly, here it is. The number two person in the terrorist organization al Qaeda, who they are crediting with the series of explosions in London, Ayman al-Zawahiri, is an old agent of the FSB. Being sentenced to death in Egypt for terrorism and hunted by Interpol, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in 1998, was in the territory of Dagestan, where for half a year he received special training at one of the educational bases of the FSB. After this training he was transferred to Afghanistan, where he had never been before and where, following the recommendation of his Lubyanka chiefs, he at once ... penetrated the milieu of bin Laden and soon became his assistant in al Qaeda.

FAKT: Could you hint at least, where this data comes from?

A. Litvinenko: I can. During my service in one of the most secret departments of the FSB, top officials from the UFSB of Dagestan, who had directly worked with Ayman al-Zawahiri ... were called to Moscow and received high posts.
