Heat waves and wildfires, just another normal summer here in sunny Taxifornia. And heartfelt sympathy for all those impacted by the fires.
This fire could have been far worse, I’ve heard it said, if the main fueling source had been from treetops lighting other treetops ablaze. Luckily that has not been the case so far. Some of these kinds of fires tend to happen toward the middle to end of summer.
I’m actually surprised and relieved that we didn’t get more forest fires this summer, due to the drought, and due to all that old growth the EPA will not let groundskeepers clear out. Let’s not forget about the many fire trails that have been recently blocked from use to ‘lessen man’s impact on the environment’.
They’ve been sending smoke signals to us in Reno since Sunday afternoon. Lucky the first round didn’t show up until right at the end of the air races. Wind is supposed to shift today so that Carson City and south will get to enjoy the smoke. Wind isn’t helping the efforts to shut it down.
I live east of that fire in N Nevada.
We have had smoke problems since it started, depending on the wind.
This AM, the TV local channels in Reno were showing how bad it was.
All outdoor athletic activities in Washoe County were banned on Tues & Wed, probably today, also.
Last year, it was a month of the smoke from the Yosemite fire.
