Why is the parlance of the day thus:

-African-American
-Asian

Really the easiest and most “accurate” might be white/black/yellow. Or the official names, Caucasoid/Negroid/Mongoloid.
Why is 1 identified by “color”, but that is cruel and racist for the others?
The “African-American” thing really gets my goat. First, it implies they really came from Africa (that was common form in my youth - Italian-American, etc). It also is useless in any place BUT America. Are they African-Americans in Italy? (Story there)
They don’t bother saying American, but “Asian” again implies some area, and requires capitalizing it, another peeve of mine. IDs should be very easy to use.

I don’t know when that happened, but I’ve heard the preferred term is now Asian. I was told that Oriental is a rug, and Asian are the people.
I know its hard to keep up with all the politically correct terminology.
Most of Asia is located in the Northern Hemisphere. However, some small islands that make up the southeast part of Asia, are south of the equator. Therefore, Asia is located in the Northern, and Southern Hemispheres whereas Biden is in Lalaland.
And the media give him a pass.
He’s an “old school” bigot. Today’s bigots know that they need to use politically correct language in expressing their bigotry. Has he ever read a book? Besides Rules for Radicals and the Koran, has Obama ever read a book?
The Japanese do (did?) call themselves "the Land of the Rising Sun", which is even more accurately "Orient" --- the word comes from the term for "toward the sunrise"--- that is, "east" with reference to the sky, not the geography. China preferred to call itself the Middle Kingdom.
Most nationalities like to think tof themselves as being the Center.
It's an odd thing, though. "Western Civilization." West of whom?

Once I was “corrected” by my friend’s friend, a white girl.
That is the only time I’ve definitively heard that “oriental” is offensive. Well, implied; she said “...Asian...” and that was it.
I’ll bet that set off a Chinese Fire Drill in the administration.
