Today as I was chatting with a new concealed carry permit holder, he asked if I carried one in the chamber. I said that I did, and explained a bit about why I do.
First off, I carry a gun because I dont know what might happen. Ill probably never need it, but someday I might, and its no burden to carry just in case.

Modern revolvers have hammer block safeties. No need for an empty chamber. They are a very good choice for beginners.
Ping for later
My SW915 is ready with one and 15 more to follow if need be
The rationale is twofold: First, I have practiced using the weapon in various conditions. I am most comfortable with condition 2. Second, the firearm has a Swartz firing pin safety.
Yes, I knew they were uninformed old guys. But as business customers I was not about to point out their ignorance, I still had to close the sale on my project. But it did make me laugh at their lack of understanding about CHL.
You’re right on that loading sequence.
Getting steady but slow rain. We need it.
Take care, FRiend.
Many modern striker-fired compact CCWs (M&P Shield, Taurus 709, etc) are designed to be carried with one in the chamber, using trigger, drop-block/striker-block, and manual safeties (although most owners manuals say not to do that). I know many here refuse to get striker-fired carry weapons with manual safeties, but if you’re worried about unintended discharges while carrying in condition 1, then you might look into those kind of pistols. Once the gun is leveled, it takes no time to flick off the manual safety and put your finger on the trigger.
“Hammer down is not entirely safe from incidental bumps or drops.”
On revolvers since the early 1990’s it is. They don’t have a direct firing pin on the hammer. Take a look at one. The hammer if flat. The trigger must be pulled for the firing pin to come in contact with the hammer.
A double action revolver like my little Ruger LCR which is my CC is the most foolproof defensive weapon one can carry. A misfire in an automatic in close quarters requires two hands and is potentially a death sentence. On a DA revolver, its a momentary delay.
Yes. We were talking about the 1911 I think. I have a couple revolvers that sport this feature.
Sigh! We can only hope. Forecast for today in Reno is 20% chance for rain. Other than that...............D R Y! Stay away from the arroyos just to be on the safe side. :>}
Bright sunshine right now, go figure.
Yup. Just picked up a Shield. I got the one with the safety but based on mechanics of it one could carry it with one chambered and the safety on or off. Individual choice as always. The safety is easy enough to disengage or engage pretty quickly. At the range. In a high stress (for some) instance, do you want that extra step? Again, individual choice.
I sure wish I could have been wrong 90% of the time and still keep my job when I was still working. I had to settle for 50%. LOL!
Exactly.
Well, according to the forecasters, the winds will be shifting this afternoon so that Carson City and points south will get to enjoy some of that BBQ aroma. LOL! If my BBQ smelled like this I don’t think I’ll make the rib cook off finals.

Which is the reason I carry a Chief’s Special. If I am grappling with someone, I can fire five shots with one hand.
