Do you think your students are learning math with these latest methods?
All that I know is that the scores of my students consistently outperform those of other teachers in my school and those of other schools in my district. I teach the way that I was taught. Granted, there are some technology pieces that are quite useful that weren’t around 30 years ago, but the fact remains if you do not know how and when to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. ...with fluency, no amount of movement or gadgets or ethnic names in the word problems (don’t get me started on that!) will ever prepare students for the real world.
