If they want independence, that is their right. And the UK seems increasingly like a historical anachronism.
No one has made an argument on behalf of a country called UK. That is something to consider for this week’s looming referendum.

Bending over backward to try Quebec in, probably would have been better off letting them go years ago.

If Scotland breaks away from the UK, it'll be bad news for the USA. The UK’s nuclear missiles are in Scotland and the Scots, if they become independent, likely will shut them down. That will leave England to build new ones in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland. The expense, couple with the outcry in the UK of building more nuclear sites, make it probable no such sites will be built. So, an ally of ours will not be able to launch nuclear missiles.
