It’s not the extent of the ice it’s the ice depth that matters and if that turns out to be above normal it’s being caused by the ocean sucking all the excess warmth out of the air and if that’s not the case then one years data is not climate you bone-heads.

And how is it physically possible for ice extent to increase as ice depth decreases ? That increased ice extent lowers the water temp due to reflection of sunlight. Basic physics. The ice also allows some of the absorbed sunlight heat to conduct back into the atmosphere, not the water.
