Hell when I went to school some teachers had paddles I got paddled twice in high school.
Fell asleep in 10th grade algebra - Teacher was the basketball coach. Extenuating circumstances - I had a morning paper route.
Forgot to get a 12th grade Civics test (I made 100% on the test) signed by my Mom - Teacher was the football line coach, th e"Board of Education" was a 1"x4"36" pine board with 1" holes drilled in it.
Ouch, but hey, rules are rules. Nipped my criminal career in the bud!

I had one teacher who was so out there you got a choice between the paddle (which was something the woodshop teacher made up, guy had issues), or you could hold on to the wires of an old telephone magneto which she would crank briefly. Torqemada had nothing on her. However, it must be said that her classes were very well behaved!

some teachers had paddles
When I went to school, it was the vice-principle's job to administer the paddlings. And he did... In the 8th grade, a student made the music teacher mad one day. The teacher grabbed out this wooden paddle and called the student up to the front of the room. The student dutifully bent over the teacher's desk. POW! The first swat...POW! The second swat and the paddle broke apart into a million pieces. Needless to say the entire class broke out laughing. If the Peterson episode had occurred in the 60's, no one would have said a word as it was nobody's business how a parent disciplined their child. I guess things are different under socialism...
