An arrest warrant was issued Friday in Texas for Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson after he was indicted on a child abuse charge for using a branch to spank his son. He won't play in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
The Vikings said they had deactivated Peterson for Sunday's game Friday evening, just after his lawyer and the Montgomery County sheriff's office confirmed he was
Read Adrian Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin's statement in full below:
Adrian Peterson has been informed that he was indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for Injury to a Child. The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son. This indictment follows Adrians full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.

My father used to hit me with a switch ... a Cisco 6509. Never hurt me.
I was raised by good, decent, loving parents who used a switch that we had to break off a tree or bush ourselves, among other things ranging from a hair brush to the back of a hand to discipline a house full of boys. Everyone of us are now retired, had successful careers, all married with children, none divorced, all attend church most every Sunday. And when we have family gatherings we often talk about how we were raised. I recommend the switch for disciplining boys.
Rains/Pours.
Black kids don’t have fathers. This is clearly abuse.
I got switched. Belt was louder but hurt less.
My dad used to spank my butt with a belt or a curtain rod. it hurt but it wasn’t abuse and I deserved it. ‘Spare the rod, spoil the child’.
I’m all for corporal punishment but not for a 4 year old and leaving severe cuts and bruises across the back and legs.
There has to be a line and from the looks of the photos that line was crossed.
No one in their right mind would bloody up a 4 year old with a switch.
That’s a crime.
It didn't happen often. I frigging learned.
Don't scare the crap out of dad by doing something stupid and almost getting yourself killed...
Love means you teach the kids not to do dangerous stuff again. Ever.

Dr. Charles Stanley used to talk about getting disciplined with a ‘switch’ back in the day. I guess he turned out alright?
I grew up in a place where boys had the shit beat out of them by their father. It pains me to see those who try to laugh off and pretend that was somehow “good” and “normal” discipline.
Even in Texas, the government is evil. Republican leaders say nothing.
If those details are accurate, then it is a whole different story.
My mother made us walk to the end of the driveway and cut our own switch to bring back to her, but that was when were more boy, not 4 years old.
Spanking isn’t effective, but we need to get the state out of parenting. Criminalizing parenting while rewarding single motherhood is a recipe for disaster.
Specify exactly what punishment is allowed, with no tolerance, ever, or the child loses the parent, forever.
Spec that.

Don’t get hit with a Catalyst... Those sting ;-)
FIrst evidently Goodell hits Rice’s wife in an elevator and now hits Peterson’s kid with a switch. They need to shut the NFL down!
I did get punished. Harshly. For doing something that could get me killed.
I restate: I'll bet you didn't grow up where stepping outside barefoot could be a death sentence.

This wasn’t discipline. It was lacerations. Lacerations that were still visible many days later. Plus bruises.
On a 4 year old.
I was spanked and paddled growing up. That was discipline.
Yep.
